Lessons Learned

Challenge: During construction, McDonnel encountered a live electrical duct bank, which was not indicated on the drawings or specifications, and was feeding an existing, functioning hospital wing. This large underground electrical bank caused several major conflicts with the proposed mechanical specifications and drawings.

Solution: McDonnel conducted extensive research to prepare accurate field verifications and modifications necessary and provided this critical information to the architectural and mechanical consultants. McDonnel collaborated with the architectural designers and mechanical engineers, and together the team was able to develop an innovative solution which allowed for the redesign of the mechanical systems. This resulted in a practical, workable, cost effective, and efficient mechanical system for the client.
