Navy Information Technology Center Base Building #4 — University of New Orleans

Project Description:
Ground up construction of five story, 105,000 Sq. Ft., Structural Steel Building with Metal Exterior Skin

Problem/Challenge:
Navy Building #4 is the forth of four identical buildings to be constructed within the University of New Orleans Technology Park. By the time this building was constructed most of the kinks had been worked out. However, the first three buildings had severe water leaks. The other designers and contractors involved with the other buildings could not locate the source of water.

Corrective Action:
During the submittal phase of the project we took the time to visit the exterior wall manufactures facility. We attended a training class offered by the manufacturer. We noticed that the receiver strip used to attach the panels diverted water into the building in lieu of directing the water to the exterior. The manufacturer visited the first three building and confirmed our suspicion. As a result of this the panel manufacturer changed their receiver detail for our project as well as others. As of this writing there have been no instances of water infiltration into the building.

Note - The concrete work on this project was completed in record time. This allowed the forth building to be completed faster than the previous three. This was a direct result of proper planning and flawless execution.
