The Center for Energy Resources Management at the University of New Orleans is located on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain in the University’s Technology Park. The project was a ground-up construction of a five-story, 101,000 SF, cast-in-place concrete structure with multiple finishes on the exterior skin.
We were really impressed with those guys. McDonnel is really ahead of the curve…
The project involved two major challenges for McDonnel to overcome. First, there were multiple design changes during the construction process. In order to keep the project on track, McDonnel increased the frequency of design/coordination/progress meetings with the Owner, consultants, and subcontractors so that the team could quickly respond to the design changes. Secondly, due to the use of multiple exterior skin materials, water/moisture control was presented a problem. To deal with this issue, McDonnel hired, at no expense to the Owner, a nationally reknowned water proofing consulting firm to analyze the situation. The firm proposed the most current and technologoically advanced methods of moisture control and McDonnel quickly implemented these innovative solutions resulting in a water-tight building.
